Studying the human body during my Physiology degree at Sheffield University in the UK was my first introduction to complex processes and I’ve been hooked ever since.

After university I went into the manufacturing sector as a production controller, where in the early days of personal computers I developed an interest in how elaborate processes and piles of data could be made more comprehensible by well designed technology. In all my roles since I’ve found myself working with business processes, how to increase compliance to them and how to communicate the risks of not complying.

I moved to New Zealand from the UK in 1999 looking for some new challenges and since arriving here I’ve worked at Fonterra as a Business Improvement Manager and at Restaurant Brands as their Group Internal Audit Manager.

My role at High Profile as Product/Project Manager is to look at new ways of enhancing our product to support the compliance challenge and also act as implementation manager for new clients. Compliance is often seen as a ‘necessary evil’ -  I enjoy increasing people’s engagement levels with the issues it presents, especially so they can see the competitive advantages of doing it better.

This is an exciting time for technology like that developed by High Profile because it brings a user-driven approach to compliance. It’s not just a top down system that’s commonplace in the industry but actually puts the accountability in the hands of those at the front line. People now expect to be able to make systems do what they want, not the other way around.

As an honorary Kiwi, I’m still awed by how beautiful this country is and take every opportunity to get out on my Ducati motorcycle and do some photography.  Although with two toddlers, as well as an old house that my wife and I are fixing up, there’s never enough time in the day to do everything…!
